Only to pack things that you really need because in total your rucksacks shouldn't weigh more than one third of your body weight.
Look at the diagram, which showed where all our equipment should be in your rucksacks.
The diagram shows that the stoves and fuel should be kept away form the food and sleeping bags and that small items which may be needed at any time but could be easily lost (such as penknife, gloves, whistle, plasters etc) should be kept in a rucksack pocket or in a separate bag tucked under the rucksack lid.
Waterproofs and a spare jumper should be packed near the top of the rucksack so that they can be reached easily if it starts raining.
We were also told how important it is to have a warm but light sleeping bag and a rucksack that fits properly.
